Clothes for Summer

With summer just around the corner its now time for me to be looking out for summer clothes for my girls. This is easy for my older two as they refuse to let me shop for them anymore but my 12 year old still values my opinion. So we have been searching the web for things we both agree on.

Brodie is a multi -talented young lady (bias mom) she loves sports and also loves theatrics and I think her style reflects this.

Her first choice was this fantastic Snapper Rock green two-piece 7 rash top UV swim set.

I love this as its pretty but will also keep her safe from the sun’s dangerous rays.

Her second choice was beachwear, I can sense a theme going on here, I am hoping she is right and we have an amazing summer.  This O’Neil Girls Floral Print Blue Beach dress is so pretty.

This is fantastic from the beach to the the shops to the restaurant.

Her next choice I think has to be my favourite, its just one of those stunning items that would be suitable for all occasions.

This SuperTrash Girls Black Rose Dress.

Of course her final choice is one that she is known to have a slight obsession for, shoes.

This time its a pair of DKNY sandals that caught her eye.

Epilepsy awareness day

20130326-084932.jpg

Today is Epilepsy awareness day, a day where people across the world, share, educate and inform people about this condition.

I am too aware of epilepsy as it was condition that Livvy suffered from severely. A condition that played a big part in her death.

Livvy suffered from uncontrollable seizures, one time we counted over 106 in a day. We tried many medications and fought hard not to let them to control her life.

Lets just say it was an ongoing war,one which sometimes we won the battle other times we lost.

Epilepsy can be scary for both the one having the seizure and the one watching.

Epilepsy is also surrounded by myths, not that long ago sufferers were accused of being demons. Thankfully times have changed but still the need for awareness is there.

So I ask you today to click this link and learn more about this condition.

Moving past first impressions.

When people look at me what to they see?

A woman who is rather overweight?

What they don’t see is a woman with a chronic debilitating pain condition which makes it near impossible for her to exercise. Also do they see a lady on pain medication that increases weight gain.

No !

Because on first glance that information isn’t there.

The way I look doesn’t tell you my story.

How often do we make judgements on those first impressions?

Yet those first moments can only tell us so much. The information we learn is limited in both depth and perception.

Ok i will accept in certain situations first impressions count, job interviews for a start. I mean you wouldn’t turn up to a business job in jeans and T-shirt. But let’s be honest a suit and tie doesn’t guarantee that you are capable of doing the job.

20130324-041802.jpg

So many times people make judgements on those first impressions, I know I have. Yet some of the worlds greatest minds or biggest hearts have been eccentric and misunderstood.

20130324-041953.jpg

Also someone of the worlds evilest people have been described as clean cut and homely.

The outside doesn’t always reflect what is within.

With the art of conversation being whittled down to 140 characters I think we need to take the time to get a closer look.

To take the time to really get to know someone by real conversations not just reading their Facebook updates.

Time and patience could bring you great rewards.

Maybe it’s time to meet for that coffee, to share a meal or maybe just an email
or two.

20130324-042214.jpg

But in a world that’s becoming more superficial everyday i believe we need search out the genuine, to find the true.

I think we owe it to ourselves and each other.

Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.

Not Acceptable

Over the last two days I’ve been attending a training course. While on this course we were chatting about what we class as acceptable behavior and I was very surprised by what people feel is acceptable.

Ignoring people

Verbal abusing people

Walking away without answering

All of the above was classed as acceptable.

Maybe I’m old fashioned but they are so not acceptable.

Now in the case of what my training was about children in care some of the above and much more are understandable.

But there is a big difference between understandable and acceptable.

Yet the truth is outside this training and here in the real world what is seen as acceptable is changing dramatically.

Take for example manners how many times have you stood in a queue saw a cashier serve someone and never hear the word thank you cross the customers lips.

In a restaurant when a waiter brings foods I have seen diners never even raise their heads let alone whisper a word of thanks.

How many emails have you received without the proper signing off. A regards or best wishes goes a long way.

Go into a school and listen to the way pupils verbally abuse teachers.

How or why did we get here?

Because we allowed it to become acceptable.

I know personally I’m going to try my hardest to use my manners at all times.

To make people’s day with a respectful thank you or I really appreciate your hard work.

I think it’s about time we started a revolution of manners.

Argo- Review

If you are after an evening with that offers, suspense, intrigue and courage look no further than the new release on DVD “ARGO”

Argo_BD_3D

I was really excited about the release of “ARGO” as a history nut films like this really capture my attention. I’m also not going to deny that having Ben Affleck starring in it didn’t add to the appeal, I have loved Ben since his Good Will Hunting  Academy Award winning days.

Anyway back to the film ARGO is based on real live events it chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis, focusing on the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played— information that was not declassified until many years after the event.

On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top “exfiltration” specialist, Tony Mendez, to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

ARGO

Besides being incredible acting in the film, Ben was also the director of this fantastic film. He also was one of the dream team of producers coming along side Grant Heslov and the very handsome talented George Clooney.

ARGO

Argo was a great hit at the cinemas and I’m sure it will be on dvd.

It was also a high flyer in the film awards taking home awards for

·         BAFTA Award for Best Film

·         BAFTA Award for Best Direction

·         BAFTA Award for Best Editing

·         Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture- Drama

·         Golden Globe Award for Best Director – Motion Picture

·         Academy Award for Best Motion Picture of the Year

·         Academy Award for Best Achievement in Editing

·         Academy Award for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously    Produced or Published

I really enjoyed this film it kept me interested from the beginning to the end and I honestly rate it as one of  the best films I’ve seen in a long time.

It is perfect for a cold nights entertainment.

Argo is available  from Amazon on both DVD and Blue-Ray

The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The film has been rated R for language and some violent images.

* I was send a copy of this dvd for the purpose of this review, but all opinions are my own.

One of those moments

You know those moments when you pass on words of wisdom to your children only to find out later that they got it so very wrong.

Well a couple of weeks ago my youngest came home from school in tears an annoying boy had taken to looking at her waiting for her to look at him just to say “what you looking at”.

Now of course first we tried the just ignore him tactics and the don’t look his way ones too, but nothing was working and it was making her life miserable.

It was such as shame as senior school is hard enough without annoying boys. I mean she has all of her marriage to put up with that.

So my husband had enough of this boy and simply told her the next time he asked her “what you looking at” she should answer with the words and the old favourite “I don’t know they don’t label crap”.

Well anyway cue us sitting up the dinner table last night when Brodie told us that she had shut the boy up with what dad had told her to say. Of course we were pleased but then she continued with the words “he looked a little confused”.

20130304-020208.jpg
What could be confusing about the statement?

So we asked Brodie what she had actually said.

She explained that when the boy said his usual “what you looking at” she had replied with.

” I don’t know, i don’t look at things that aren’t labelled” and then she added “you need to get yourself labelled “

Of course once we had picked up ourselves off the floor in hysterics we kindly explained where she had gone wrong.

Anyway the boy left her alone, confused maybe or frightened whichever one it worked.

Memories in the making.

Hello Half term

Hello half term

You’ve creeped up on me this time. I’m not prepared at all, I’ve allowed appointments to fall into our fun filled week.

That’s not our way.

We should be invading the park blowing those winter blues well away.

Adventure playground, animal farm and so much more.

I feel guilty but hey ho, two hours out of a whole week isn’t that bad.

So lets get planning.

Fun here we come.

Lets make some memories.

Tomorrow

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. NIV Matthew 6.34

I think this should become my new mantra.

A statement that I repeat to myself over and over until my heart and head finally learn to understand and accept it.

Why do I allow myself to worry so much?

To worry about everything and for everyone.

I need to concentrate on the now.

This moment

Right now

The present

My mind is always worrying days, weeks in advance.

Tripping over negative thoughts.

Falling over my anxiety

I’m forgetting about this moment, about living this time.

Living for the moment, have I ever allowed myself the gift of this.

Have I ever been allowed this?

Always the organiser, always the planner.

Always the grown up, always the responsible one.

I want to view the world with a child like innocence.

To go with the flow

To leave tomorrow to itself

To leave next week, next month to its own devices.

To trust

To stand in faith.

Happy New Year 2013

So here we are at the beginning of a new year, a new diary, a new start.

But are we really to believe that anything did change at the striking of the hour.

I believe that change starts in our souls not on any date.

If you get me started i will tell you of my dislike of time and the fact that whole concept is really a man made thing.(but that is another post)

The truth is the date of a calendar shouldn’t be the reason for change, the stirrings of our heart should be.

If we want to lose weight any day can be a day to start.

If we wish to study, start a new hobby don’t let the date hold you back, June 11th is just as good as January 1st.

Time isn’t the motivator desire is.

But the truth is we do all see the start of a new year as a new start and for that reason I wish you all well in your endeavor’s.

May the year 2013 be all you dream it can be,

But please remember if you do fall down, any day of the year can be the one in which you stand up again.

I wish you well.

Happy New Year

Its nearly over woo hoo.

So am I the only one breathing a sign of relief now that Christmas is nearly over.

I find it all so stressful, the wrapping of the presents the writing of the cards, the remembering of everyone names and the names of their children. It all sends me to the verge of insanity and lets not even mention the Christmas dinner.

At times i  have actually felt physically sick with all the stress and as you can imagine stress effects my illness and my body seems to just surrender to any virus’s going around. So far i’ve had the sickness bug twice and the flu, migraines you name it I will list it.

Of course the joy on my kids faces on Christmas morning was worth it. Even the teenagers were happy for a couple of hours.

But I am tired to my bones.

Its been a strange one but a good one, as i mentioned the teens have been bearable, the husband helpful and the two little ones well hyper doesn’t seem to come close to describing them. I admit to wishing they had an off switch over the last few days. Why does excitement have to be so loud and Autistic melt downs well they certainly wasn’t on my Christmas list.

So now I could do with just some down time, I’m slightly fed up of Christmas trees and flashing lights, toys going off randomly, gifts left in the living room as the bedrooms are full to bursting. Bins overflowing and half eaten selection packs.

Kids requiring food at least three times at day. ( I miss school dinners).

Television full of Christmas specials of soaps that i never watch throughout the rest of the year. Films that have been watched numerous times before.

Relatives visiting. (of course they were very welcome).

But ……

I  just need my order, my routine and just some peace and quiet.

So yes Christmas was lovely but yes I am ready for it to be over.

Am I alone in feeling this way?
